Many NFL teams passed on Shedeur Sanders at the NFL draft in April, and it seems some fans don’t believe he’s got what it takes to be a starter with the Cleveland Browns.
On Tuesday’s Media Day, the former Colorado standout’s photo reveal had plenty of reaction from fans.
“OB1 for practice squad,” tweeted @Great93Scott.

“QB5.”
“Lmfaooo hes 4th string junk,” said @krev112008.
Sanders was projected to be the second quarterback taken off the board in April’s draft, but he didn’t get chosen until the fifth round. There are five quarterbacks on the Browns’ depth chart, counting Sanders, with the others being Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.
Some were a little more supportive of the son of Hall of Fame footballer Deion Sanders, though, with @Mp5miles13221 tweeting:
“Them boys better block afc north hit hard.”
“I don’t know how this is a discussion. He’s the clear QB1 in talent and in AURA,” said @IMxTJB.

“Yes Sir Shedeur.”
Last season, the Browns’ top two quarterbacks, Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston, were sacked 33 and 24 times, respectively. Three of the top four pass rushers in the league last season regarding sacks came from the AFC North: Trey Hendrickson, Myles Garrett and Kyle Van Noy.
Sanders won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award in college last season and was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. He threw for a career-high 4,134 yards with a career-best completion percentage of 74.0.
Shedeur Sanders must master several things to win the starting job
Despite how highly touted he was heading into the draft, Shedeur Sanders is anything but a guaranteed starter on the Browns next season. Speaking to Yahoo Sports on Monday, Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees said:
“I mean, yeah, you can see them all winning the job, I think, right?”
“[The QB] rotation day by day has been kind of fluid. These days, we probably have the most reps to go around, so we’re able to balance them out. But all those guys have done a nice job coming to work and understanding that each day is going to be a little bit different rotationally.”
For Sanders to earn the starting job, reports indicate he has to learn the scheme, verbiage and terminology, which is quite different from his days in Colorado.
Yahoo Sports adds that he has to take advantage of every snap he gets and show the same kind of accuracy we saw in college, though it’ll be tough given the kind of pressure he’s likely to be facing.
