On June 15, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh hosted a reception on the occasion of Russia Day. This colorful event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, journalists, politicians, academics, entrepreneurs and cross section of people.

The Ambassador also emphasized Russia’s independent foreign policy that aims at creating an equal and indivisible security architecture in Eurasia.

Mr. Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Chief Guest, Honorable Adviser, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and Ministry of Railways, also delivered a speech recalling the solid foundation Russia-Bangladesh relations stand on and expressing optimism about deepening bilateral cooperation in energy and agriculture sectors.

The event’s cultural program featured a musical performance by the Moscow Russian Song Ensemble. The audience enjoyed Russian traditional songs interpreted with modern touch.

The guest performance was organized by Russian state corporation “Rosatom”, which is constructing the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh in Rooppur (Pabna District). Today, energy cooperation is a driving force of Russia-Bangladesh cooperation. The year of 2025 marks the celebration of 80 years of atomic industry in Russia – a symbol of scientific progress and solid sovereignty of the country.

The reception brought together Bangladeshi officials, representatives of diplomatic corps, media and business communities, academic circles, cultural figures, and Russian compatriots.

The guests could also view the exhibition entitled “The Images of Russian History”, which included 30 reproductions of masterpieces reflecting the milestones of the historical path of the country.

Ambassador of Russia to Bangladesh Mr. Alexander Khozin in his speech stated:

I welcome you all at the Russian Embassy on the occasion of the Russia Day. On this national holiday, we celebrate the heroic history and tremendous heritage of our country. At the same time, we look into the future with confidence and ambition to achieve even more for the benefit of the multinational peoples of Russia, for the benefit of our partners in the international arena, for global peace and progress.

Stretched from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean, Russia is abundant in its vast territory. Russia is very rich in natural resources: gas and oil, diamonds, timber and fresh water to mention but a few. Achievements in AI (Artificial Intelligence), digital technologies in public services, space and aviation design and industry, nuclear power industry are worth mentioning. The scientific and innovation potential is enormous, and it is ready for sharing with our partners.

The last three years have been marked by major changes in logistics, cooperation chains, and international payments. However, the Russian economy saw an impressive growth: it was 4.1% in 2023 and 4.3% in 2024 and, evidently, this year will show further growth.

On the global stage, Russia pursues an independent and balanced foreign policy. Russian President Vladimir Putin has come forward with the idea of a new security architecture in Eurasia, which “must be equal and indivisible, so that all the countries receive solid guarantees of their security without compromising the security and interests of other countries”. This emerging architecture will greatly benefit from such organizations as Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BIMSTEC, SAARC, IORA, which unite a large number of Global East and Global South nations, including Bangladesh.

For more than 50 years, the relations between Russia and Bangladesh have been based on the principles of friendship, equality and mutual respect. Today, Bangladesh is Russia’s second largest trade partner in South Asia. For several years in a row, our bilateral trade has been exceeding two billion US dollars, with wheat and fertilizers being the major export goods from Russia. The Russian company Gazprom is a long-term player in the energy domain of Bangladesh with 20 drilled gas wells on the Bhola island and two discovered gas fields.

This year we widely celebrate 80 years of the glorious victory in the GPW and the end of WWII.  Also, this year the celebration of the Russia Day in Bangladesh is special. 80 years ago, the Soviet Union founded its atomic industry. It became a symbol of scientific progress and solid sovereignty of the country and largely impacted the development of the entire national economy. Presently, talented engineers, designers, and technical specialists from Russia and Bangladesh work hard towards the completion of the Nuclear Power Plant in Rooppur, with its first unit expected to be launched by the end of this year.

It is heartening to see for me as the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh, that our relations are on the rise and there are prospects to make our bilateral cooperation even more solid. I am confident that stronger ties will benefit both Moscow and Dhaka. This cooperation will bring security and prosperity to our peoples, as well as stability to the region and the world.

Well, dear friends, I can’t but say a few words more. Russian culture is internationally recognized. Russian ballet and literature, art and theater have become an integral part of the human heritage. Today, you will get a glimpse of that through the performance of the Russian folk ensemble brought here by Atomstroyexport Company.
