It is highly disturbing to hear US President Donald J Trump is now prepared to engage Tehran’s radical Islamist rulers in order to roll back Iran’s nuclear program. One hopes such news is not true. Washington ought to bear in mind Tehran has been racing ahead with its uranium enrichment efforts. The current regime in Iran wishes to acquire a nuclear weapon mainly to destroy Israel and the Western civilization.
One rather thinks the Trump presidency today ought to go after the radical Shiite regime in Tehran. It must bear in mind that, given the nature of the current regime in Tehran, it would never abandon its nuclear weapon program and stop its campaign against Israel, the little Satan and America, the Great Satan. In order to stop the current regime in Iran from hurting the existence of any other state, Washington must dismantle it and help install a genuinely democratic Iranian establishment in its place.
During his first term in the White House, President Trump had done well to pull the United States out of the Obama-era Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. He had done so as the JCPOA-proposed limits on Iran’s suspect nuclear programs hardly deterred it. In his current term in the White House, President Trump must be further strict to roll back Iranian nuclear weapon program.
Authentic reports are that Iran today has more than 600 pounds of uranium enriched up to 60 percent. Tehran can construct a bomb within days. Its stocks of enriched uranium and centrifuge capacity are sufficient to make up to nine nuclear weapons in a month.
One thinks the Trump presidency would do well to take into account what US intelligence agencies have been saying since long – Iran is the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism. By dismantling the radical regime in Iran, Washington would do a great service to the people who have suffered in post-Sha Iran as well as to all those states which are, directly or indirectly, victims of Iran-sponsored terrorism.
It would be good if Washington resorted military action against the radical regime in Iran today. Preferably, it could be an Israeli-led operation backed by Washington. The time is ripe for such an action. Israel has already devastated Hamas and Hezbollah, Iran’s proxies. Both Washington and Jerusalem have ramped up their military campaign against Yemen’s Houthis, another Iranian proxy.
Pertinently, Israel would do well to go in for the complete eradication of Hamas in Gaza today. It must see to it that Hamas gets no role at all in the governance of Gaza in future. The terrorist group massacred the Israeli civilians on October 2023 in the way only the savages could have. Such an organization cannot be expected to be accountable in any decent set-up.
Also, Israel must defend its right to build settlements in the West Bank. History bears out the Jewish people’s ties to the land date back to the ancient world. Also, there was never any such thing as the West Bank in ancient times. The area was called Judea and Samaria.
