The 2025 US Open came with its fair share of troubles for Rory McIlroy. From being criticized for not speaking to the media to being spotted throwing his club, McIlroy found himself at the center of controversy on many occasions during his campaign at Oakmont.

However, it seems that the Northern Irishman might now have news that will bring him some much-needed peace. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the official handle of the European Ryder Cup team wrote a post in which they mentioned McIlroy became the first golfer to automatically qualify for the 2025 Ryder Cup.

The tweet read:

“Make that EIGHT consecutive Ryder Cups 😏 @McIlroyRory is the first #TeamEurope player confirmed for the 2025 Ryder Cup.”

Despite having a tough time at Oakmont, Rory McIlroy’s 2025 season has been nothing short of spectacular. This year, McIlroy has won 3 professional events – AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Players Championship, and The Masters at Augusta.

Fans will be keen to see if McIlroy can regain the form he experienced earlier in the year and help Team Europe defend the Ryder Cup when they play at Bethpage Black later this year. It must also be noted that like McIlroy, Team USA also has a golfer who has qualified and his name is Scottie Scheffler.
